Design Odyssey Internship - Hyundai Anjuna by Aditya Mantha

Design Odyssey Internship's Goal is to nurture upcoming talent and share essential knowledge and skills to participants for their future endeavors in Automotive Design.

this year's program has been hugely successful and achieved results even with Virtual interactions. We really appreciate the Countless efforts by all the Participants and Mentors for the Past Three Months. It has been a fun-filled experience for all of us.

Here Participants have shared their project journey as they Experienced it. Starting With Hyundai India Design Studio Internship, Mentors tried to Simulate Virtual Studio with a seamless feedback loop & Environment by Creating a Group of participants Working alongside and competing for the best Results and sharing ideas & knowledge.

Have a Break: "Hyundai Anjuna "

a novel way of enjoying at a beach and the lifestyle surrounding it.

Assigned Brief

A pure expression serving the passengers to have memorable moments

About the Project

After several ideation a minimalist approach towards the structure of the vehicle was chosen. To design a car with a bare minimum of body panels, with strong and stiff core skeletal structure supporting all essential elements. It was to be a pure expression of athleticism and fun to be had at the beach, serving the passengers to have memorable moments thanks to a novel way of enjoying at a beach and the lifestyle surrounding it.

The vehicle does not have an interior in the conventional sense as the body panels are kept to a bare minimum allowing the user to experience the beautiful outdoors in an unhindered way. These are designed to be exposed to the elements and endure the wear and tear. The whole body is designed around a skeleton which also keeps in mind the placement of 3 surfboards on the car. Two surfboards can be attached on the top, which can be detached for use, but when they are attached, they act as a roof ,one of the design intents. A third surfboard which can be loaded from the rear of the car, fits below the center console of the interior. It can be easily accessed from the rear of the car, and also becomes a clear element of the interior. The vehicle also has dedicated removable luggage designed to be attached on the rear deck of the car, behind the seats.

Bare minimum allowing the user to experience the beautiful outdoors in an unhindered way. These are designed to be exposed to the elements and endure the wear and tear. The overall gesture of the car including the attitude, the shapes and colors are inspired by marine life. Thus, while it does look at home on the beach, if spotted outside of its intended habitat, it can easily convey its intent clearly.

The wheel design was inspired by a variety of sponge growing in the coral reefs. The wheel rims and tires are unified by a parametric approach to design which could be achieved using 3D printing.

The overall gesture of the car including the attitude, the shapes and colors are inspired by marine life. Thus, while it does look at home on the beach, if spotted outside of its intended habitat, it can easily convey its intent clearly. The car was designed for an electric power train by extrapolating the recent advances in lightweight, high density battery technology, advances in graphene-enhanced materials and Level 4.5 autonomous driving systems.
